    Katowice
    Katowice, set on the Silesian Upland, is the capital of the Silesian Voivodeship and the centre of the Metropolis GZM. With a population of more than 290 thousand, it is one of the largest cities in Poland. It grew thanks to industry and the railways, and today it combines modernity with history. Nikiszowiec, the Spodek arena and the Silesian Museum are all worth seeing. Its temperate climate means the best time to visit is spring and autumn, when temperatures are pleasant and ideal for sightseeing.
